That's actually the standard kit lens with a rubber lens hood on it (that I have rolled back). It's just a cheap $5 lens hood to help with sun flaring in the photos but at the widest zoom it starts to show up in the photo (which can actually be good if you want a rounded look to the photo). I bought a Canon 75-300mm zoom lens with my Camera as a bundle and use it semi-frequently. It fairly well, but has a good bit of chromatic aberration in high contract lighting situation. Since it doesn't have image stabilization it can produce blurry images easily without a tripod at maximum zoom but that is true of all such lenses. I actually don't often use my zoom lens but it is nice when I do need it (like when I was in Guatemala).
Cool! I would love to take landscape pictures (mountains, sunsets, sunrises, etc.) but I only have a small, point and shoot camera right now. Maybe sometime in the future I'll get a bigger camera. :)
Depending on the quality of camera, you can actually take good landscape photos with point and shoot cameras. Of course having a DSLR camera greatly improves the image quality as control of the photographing details.
That's an interesting looking lens! What type is it? I'm thinking about buying a zoom lens to take better nature photographs from far away.
